LipMIX is a project based on my experience visiting the Bite Beauty Lip Lab in New York City. It's a small place where you can create your very own shade of lipstick and I loved getting the chance to do that. I documented my time at the Lip Lab and came up with this DIY lipstick kit so that the experience could be accessible for anyone.
I created the background of the booklet and instructions by painting onto thick paper, ripping it into pieces, and then collaging them haphazardly. I then scanned the texture onto my computer so that I could use it for my design.
I found a natural lip balm recipe online that used beeswax and cocoa butter to make for the lipstick "base." I then created the "pigments" by crushing powder blush.
I decided to fold the instructions into a triangular shape to reflect the letterforms in the typeface I used and just to add an extra level of interaction.
I printed this piece on various paper textures to reflect the DIY idea behind this design. One of the pages is printed on transparent paper so that the user can place their hand underneath the lipstick shade to test it on their skin tone.
